------------------ Here's the trailer for one of my character's films. "Low Voltage" is the name of his production company. "Shotgun Wave" is a term used to describe an especially powerful and highly-compressed wave. -- suffah, pope ryan@chronic.lpl.arizona.edu -------------- [ESTABLISHING SHOT: Waves roll in at dawn, crashing against the silhouetted buildings of LA's Venice.] [CLOSEUP on the face of a man in his early twenties, with two day's growth of beard, red-rimmed bloodshot eyes, and close-cropped bleached-blond hair. An eerie moaning sound is heard in the distance, punctuated by a regular rhythm--"tick tick BOOM tick tick BOOM."] YOUNG MAN [grinning]: Hey, you don't have gloves, so keep your hands out of the water when we paddle through this next bit. VOICE [offscreen]: Why? YOUNG MAN [grin takes on a feral cast]: Rats can swim, man. [RAPID MONTAGE: two men and a woman in neon-colored wetsuits surf through a parking structure under flickering fluorescent lights, swerving between concrete pylons, rusted cars, and chasing the waves up ramps, intercut with washed-out flatscreen footage of 2010-era cars in a similar parking structure; grimy bills being handed off under a plastic table in a fast-food chain; two LAPD officers casually getting out of their patrol car while thick black smoke rolls up from a building two miles away; flashing red-and-blue lasers sweep across the crowd at a dark and very crowded nightclub as loud music plays; a small group of surfers seen at a distance out past Venice shoving a surfboard bearing a sheet-wrapped burden in the shape of a human body out into the waves; a closeup of a tattered and faded blueprint for an office building, with an "X" scrawled on it in thick grease pencil] [CUT to tastefully-decorated OFFICE. An older man in an expensive-looking business suit sits in a comfortable leather office chair. Faint green-and-blue light from the monitor inset in his desk glints in his eyes. His hair is greying.] OLDER MAN: If it wasn't dangerous, I'm sure they wouldn't be doing it. [OLDER MAN turns to look out the window behind him; CAMERA PERSPECTIVE PANS smoothly up and over his right shoulder. Out of the window we see that the afternoon tide is coming in] OLDER MAN [thoughtfully]: That's the only reason I ever did it, anyway. It's the only reason I ever did /any/ of those things. [CUT to BLACK. FADE IN TITLE, off-white letters: "SHOTGUN WAVE". MORPH to TITLE: "a Low Voltage documentary". MORPH to TITLE, blue-white letters: "directed by Tom Pierce".] [CUT to EXTERIOR WATERLINE UP-ANGLE SHOT of parking structure half-submerged in water. One man and one woman in neon-colored wetsuits rocket off the top level in a spray of foam, clinging to their surfboards; the camera follows them down to the water. The white splash of their landing obscures everything. FADE IN TITLE, black letters rimmed with red: "this summer". MORPH to TITLE: "every summer".]
