Robert Johnson and I
sing sad songs. He holds the neck of a beer bottle filled with
poison against the handle of the guitar. I wear a cheap pinstripe
suit.
T-Bone Walker and I
sing slow songs. He hasn't shaved in a few days. I wear a crushed
black cowboy hat and a plaid shirt.
Ella Fitzgerald and I
sing improvised songs. Her eyes roll towards the white ceiling.
I laugh too loud at the smooth gibberish of her verses.
Jimmy Durante and I
sing old songs. He presses his stumpy hands against his smooth
suit, over his heart. I look down at the elderly couple holding
hands.
