Log based on flyer found with your note to Batman. --------------- Gotham: GCPD -- Rooftop The top of the roof is covered with patches of tar, melted over and over in the sun, dark against the white and black mixed shingles. The view is breathtaking, as the Gotham skyline can be seen beyond. Enormous buildings, rising far into the heavens, span out over the horizon. And in the middle of the Gotham Bay, the prison known as Blackgate rises up from the murky waters. During the day, the building is kept, at times, in shadows from the skyscrapers, sheltered from the sun's rays. In the evening, the roof is barely lit, containing only the light of the stairwell to crack the thick blackness of night. Located at the very center of the roof, a colossal spotlight stands, its head pointed towards the sky above. The front of it has the shape of a bat, and when it is turned on, the beacon of light leaves the signal of the bat on the heavens above. Gordon throws leaver to the on position. The bat signal flickers once or twice, then projects a steady beam of light over the city. High in the sky above the Bat-Signal flares to life. Robin descends from the sky above. Robin has arrived. Batman descends from the sky above. Batman has arrived. Gordon stands by the blazing signal waiting. A small folder is underneth his arm. Robin lands on his toes, silently and stealthily. Batman steps out of the shadows, face cast in extreme relief by the light of the Bat-Signal. He says "Evening, Commissioner..." and slips one shoulder from under the folds of his cape. Robin stands behind the commissioner, listening quietly. Gordon glances towards the Batman "Hello... Glad you could make it... found something that you might want to take a look at... Something we found at the Chocolate Factory." He takes the folder under his arm, and holds it out. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 From: Joker At: Tue Jun 17 13:54:47 1997 Fldr : 0 Status: Read To : Gordon Subject: Another Batman Scene Excuse --------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the flyers collected from the Chocolate factory has the following scrawled on the back in purple crayon. Handwriting says what you figured all along: it's the Joker's: "Bats: Don't *tell* me you don't get the joke. Forget about those trees, there's a whole -forest- over here. Where's Smokey the Bear when you need him? 'Only you...' Just try and guess where this is all going. Just try. Try. XOXOXOXOXOXO, J." Forward this to him when you log the scene. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Batman tilts his head slightly, and accepts the folder. Speed-reading the contents, his neck stiffens slightly. Shutting the folder slowly with one hand, he rests the other on the buckle of his utility belt. Robin looks curious about the contents of the folder...he steps forward. Gordon straightens his glasses with one hand "One of the clerks found that one." He shakes his head "She must have fainted when she saw it." Batman holds the folder out for Robin as he appears, eyes locked on a water tower across the way from the rooftop. His expression shows his displeasure more than any words could convey. Robin skims over the words..."..Can prevent forest fires?" Gordon takes in a slow breath, and nods in response to the silence, he knows what it means. He states finally, the obvious "He's playing with us... He wants us to guess." Batman says "No point in guessing, Jim. We need to apply what we know here. Anything else will mean more time wasted." Batman works his jaw, eyes still distant. "The GPL rally is as good a target for him as any. Perhaps the crowning punchline to this whole sick 'joke' of his. This could easily just be a hint of what he has planned for that." Gordon nods "Agreed. I have people looking into this computer business..." He pauses and hrms at the second comment "Yes... and it could be disasterous. I'll have as many people there as I can, but it may not be enough." Batman says "It won't." Robin stands on quietly, listening attentively to the interaction. Batman's sour tone registers in the deep frown on his face. He glances finally down from the water tower to look at Gordon. "I'm going to have to make a showing during the rally, no matter what. The fact that he's looking forwards to it doesn't help, but I really have no choice." Gordon nods slowly "You have my word that my people won't interfer with your business. But it will probably be because they'll already have their hands full." Batman says "I'd say they do already. Gotham's again proving its knack for coming apart at the seams. The Governor'll be sending in the national guard soon, if this continues." Gordon smirks ever so slightly and nods "If the mayor had his way they'd be here already. I'm glad the Governor still has some faith in us." Batman hmms. "Krol must be giving you a hard time with all this. Imagine the effect on his re-election campaign these last few months must be." Gordon straightens his glasses again, a nervous twitch perhaps? "Yes.. he is, so far it is under control however." oO (He wouldn't dare push me out now)Oo Batman turns. "I hope we're both that optimistic by the end of this whole debacle." Batman ascends to the sky above. Batman has left. Robin ascends to teh sky above. Robin has left. Gordon nods "Yes.. let's hope." he slowly turns and turns off the signal as the two heroes leave. Gordon throws the leaver to the off position. The Bat-Signal winks out, throwing the roof back into darkness. High in the sky above the Bat-Signal blinks off.
