At a young age Valencia showed interest in medicine and seemed to have the ambition and intelligence to achieve this goal. Unlike her siblings she was not associated with any illegal activities or gang affiliations. Valencia attended Northwestern University and graduated at the top of class. She attended the Georgetown School of Medicine but never completed her degree there.
She has been arrested and charged several times for illegal possession of prescription drugs, illegal distribution and selling of prescription drugs, practicing medicine without a license, escaping from custody, and several counts of breaking and entering in LA and Orange County. She is suspected of assisting several mutants evade prosecution in the state of California as part of a Mutant Underground cell. She was convicted for stealing over $80,000 worth of prescription medication and other medical supplies from the USC Medical Center and incarcerated at FCI-Bellewether. There she was classified as a serious security risk and was placed in solitary confinement for 6 months for stealing medications and needles from the infirmary.
Her brother Aaron is a firefighter and her sister Rachael has been arrested as part of pro-mutant protests.
Hartnett has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, treatable by regular doses of insulin and blood sugar monitoring.
