"The calendar is intolerable to all wisdom, the horror of all astronomy, and a laughing-stock from a mathematician's point of view." --- Roger Bacon, 1267
The campaign began on 14 July 1466. However, it should be noted that in practical terms there is no such day. In the 13th century, Roger Bacon pointed out to Pope Clement IV that the calendar year was about 11 minutes longer than the actual solar year, with the result that the true date was about 9 days different from the date that was used. Eventually, Bacon said, March would be in the dead of winter and August in the spring and (by the way), Easter's not Easter. (Easter was calculated from the spring equinox after an anti-Semitic movement swept the church and eliminated the usual calculation which was from a Jewish ceremony. The spring equinox was a set on a fixed day - March 21.) Bacon's ideas were ignored when Clement unexpectedly died, and the calendar would not be fixed until 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII (hence, the Gregorian calendar.)
Most people of lower and middle class do not pay much attention to the date. Signing dates to letters is unusual. The only dates of significance are holy days, which are thoughtfully kept track of by the church. With the spread of literacy, calendars are becoming more common but continue to be of dubious accuracy. Furthermore, the year is also uncertain. In areas not fully Christianized, dates tend to be written in the consular system of Rome or based on the year of a king or Emperor's rule. Ironically, in particularly conservative Christian areas the same rule exists, because there isn't much point in keeping track of the year since Christ's arrival, when Christ should be back any minute now. However, Church officials, legal authorities and astrologers keep careful track of the day. Dr. Paracelsus himself believed the day and time had immense effects on alchemical reactions. Of course, the Order of Reason's calendar is accurate far beyond what is currently done with Sleeper authorities.
Here is someting which many people in the game world do not have, therefore: A calendar for the year 1466.
I am not going to maintain or update this timeline regularly. Any player who does so for me will be earning towards an XP cookie:
