From: Jason Corley To: The New Zoo Revue -- Greg Kacwhatever , Kimberly Applegate , Ryan Franklin Subject: Sample Wraith Character I'll very quickly show you what a Wraith character looks like by describing a minor NPC to you: The concept is simple: he's Eddy, and he didn't come back from Dead Man's Curve. His Attributes and Abilities are straightforward enough: STR 2 DEX 3 STA 3 MAN 2 CHA 4 (intensely cool) APP 4 (50's heartthrob) INT 2 PER 3 WIT 3 Drive 4 (hot rod...he's gotten better since he died) Ettiquette 1 Firearms 1 Brawl 2 etc. etc. etc. PASSIONS: Win races (Pride)......3 Fix up cars (Pride)....3 (Eddie, having been around a while, has lost some of his Passions: player character Wraiths have 10 points worth.) FETTERS: American Garage & Towing Service .....4 (he used to hang around there a lot.) Dead Man's Curve......................2 (Again, player characters start with 10 points of Fetters.) ARCANOS: Argos 3 Embody 4 (Player character Wraiths only start with 5 points of Arcanos.) BACKGROUNDS: Memoriam 4 (that damn song: Memoriam is a measure of how much the living still remember and talk about you.) Artifact 3 (his car) Haunt 1 (Dead Man's Curve: this means that it is easier for him to manifest wraithly things at DMC.) Notoriety 2 (This means a fair number of wraiths know who he is.) Renegade Status 1 (This means that a few Renegade factions think he's pretty cool, which he is.) (Player character Wraiths only start with 7 points of backgrounds. Remember, though, you have Freebie points to spend in Wraith as well.) PATHOS: 9 (Eddie has a lot of Pathos because he has a very high Memoriam.) ================== Eddie's Shadow might be a spiteful Parent, trying to ruin his fun and get him to do things to make sure that he can't have any. It might have Passions like "Kill People With Cars" or "Run People Off Road At Dead Man's Curve". Eddie would only have a vague idea of what his Shadow was capable of, since he doesn't have the Castigate Arcanos. ==================== Let's talk about what Eddie _could_ do. Argos 1 allows him to turn himself invisible for a brief period of time. Argos 2 allows him to fly for a period of time. Argos 3 allows him to move short distances very quickly: it's like a very short line-of-sight teleport. It also means if he's running (or driving, in his case) somewhere, he cal "flicker" along the path and go much faster. Each use of this power costs him one Pathos. Embody 1 allows him to make his voice heard in the mortal world, as a very faint whisper. It costs 1 Pathos to use. Embody 2 allows him to appear as a translucent, insubstantial figure in the real world. He also excites fear in mortals who see him in that state. This also costs 1 Pathos to use. Embody 3 allows him to appear as a solid pale figure, albeit one that cannot move, in the Shadowlands. This costs 1 Pathos. Embody 4 allows him to appear as a somewhat abstract form of his former self: much paler, colder form, but he can talk and walk and interact (and race) with the mortal world. This costs 2 Pathos. Now, if he botches any of these (there is a roll that has to be made for each), his Shadow could get stronger, or it might be able to try to dematerialize him immediately (particularly on the Embody ones: getting stuck between the mortal world and the Shadowlands is a real bitch.) =============================
